NWC’s Custom Build ranks in top green homes
Sarasota, Florida

NWC built a $1.95 million “green luxury” home rated among Florida’s top three green homes (Sarasota, Fla. March 30, 2018) –

It didn’t take award-winning builder Nathan Cross long to make his mark in Sarasota’s select green luxury home market.

“The Element,” a $1.95 million custom home that Cross completed in late 2017 after 14 months of construction, recently was rated among Florida’s top three most energy efficient homes by Two Trails Inc., the nation’s largest third-party provider of sustainable building consulting and verification.

The modern-style house, an original design by Jonathan Parks, has 8,718 square feet under roof and 4,735 square feet under air. It is located on 7,500 square feet of waterfront property in a gated enclave of 10 homes.

The Element’s unique features appealed to Cross, who is as selective about partnering with owners as he expects owners to be in choosing a builder. As founder and president of NWC Construction Inc., Cross is a boutique builder who specializes in building and remodeling homes for discerning people who equally prize luxury and built-in energy efficiency.

The Element showcases NWC’s philosophy and commitment to high-end construction, his team’s experience and skill, and Cross’ personalized management and attention to detail. Cross describes himself as a “builder’s builder” and often is hands-on with tools and management at the job site.

A second-generation builder who started his business 20 years ago, Cross collected numerous industry and leadership awards in the Orlando area.

His awards include being named the 2009 Orlando Builder of the Year and 2011 Florida Remodeler of the Year. Cross served as 2013-14 Orlando Builders Association president and in 2014 received the Orlando mayor’s proclamation naming Nathan Cross Day for his leadership in the community and representing homebuyers’ best interests.

The awards reflect NWC’s collaborative and straightforward approach with clients and design teams. He is a hard cost builder who provides a firm price for the home’s “sticks and bricks.” The approach has been welcomed in Sarasota where Cross moved his business and family in 2015.

“I scouted the state, and in Sarasota I found the perfect mix: A better lifestyle for my family, world-class architects and designers, and homeowners who demand the highest quality construction with the latest environmentally friendly features,” Cross said.

Delivering a finished showcase residence that achieved the highest green and energy certifications started with the home’s high-performance shell. The house was built for durability and includes numerous additional energy and water efficient features, among them all Energy Star-certified appliances, a cost-offsetting solar panel system, Trane’s first fully communicating heat pump air conditioning system, highly efficient LED and programmable lights, and recycled and renewable building products used throughout the home.

Building green features into The Element did not require sacrificing luxurious comfort and stunning design. The great room’s centerpiece is a suspended steel staircase hanging from the roof. Hickory engineered hardwood flooring runs throughout the main living areas.

The house has four en suite bedrooms, an office, a bonus area, and a loft gym with views of New Pass and downtown Sarasota. The deck of the 10,000-gallon infinity edge pool and spa is of Jerusalem stone.

A large island handcrafted of bookmatched walnut is the standout feature in the kitchen, which has top-of-the-line appliances.
Integrated smart home technology gives owners remote access to view and secure the entire house.

In addition to Cross and Parks, The Element team included David K. Lowe, interior design; Michael A. Gilkey Inc., landscape architect, and McCall & Young Engineering LLC, engineer.

“The opportunity to collaborate with talented building and design professionals of this caliber and the market here for custom luxury green homes were two main factors that drew us to Sarasota,” Cross said.

Cross’ professional designations include the NAHB Certified Green Building Professional (CGP), NAHB Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), and NAHB Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR). NWC serves Sarasota, Siesta Key, Casey Key, Longboat Key, Anna Maria Island, Bradenton, Boca Grande, and neighboring communities in Florida.

NWC Custom Build is a member of the Manatee-Sarasota Building Industry Association an Affiliated local within the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in Washington, D.C.
